DEI Reports and Data

Department of Medicine Diversity Goals:

Recruitment and Patient Care:

  • Organized recruitment efforts aimed at increasing the number of underrepresented in medicine (URM) faculty and graduate level trainees (residents/fellows).
  • Provide the highest standard of care while being mindful of the unique needs of the diverse populations whom we serve.
  • Vision: Improved diversity among Department of Medicine faculty and trainees will enhance outcomes and improve the quality of care we provide.
  • Data to support this vision: Gomez LE, Bernet P. Diversity improves performance and outcomes. J Natl Med Assoc. 2019 Aug;111(4):383-392. doi: 10.1016/j.jnma.2019.01.006. Epub 2019 Feb 11. PMID: 30765101.

Retention and Engagement:

  • Engage Department of Medicine faculty and trainees in diversity and inclusion efforts.
  • Acknowledge the experiences and perceptions of women and underrepresented in medicine (URM) groups. Recognize and work to eliminate the barriers to retention and advancement.
  • Vision: In doing so, we will cultivate a culture that values diversity, equity and inclusion so that we better support the retention, development, and advancement of all faculty and trainees.
