Employee Spotlight: Laura Grimball

Today, we want to recognize Laura Grimball, Administrative Assistant, Division of Infectious Diseases. She has been noted by her colleagues as a patient advocate, an asset, a team player, a wealth of knowledge and a compassionate person. She is known for her warm and welcoming attitude and is noted as an intricate part of the Ryan White Clinic. We are proud to have Laura as part of our team!

An advocate

"Laura is a tireless advocate for our HIV patients she assists them in so many ways above and beyond making appointments. Always ready to help set up services, go the extra mile." -Susan Dorman, M.D.

An asset

"Laura was an asset to our department before she ever joined us two years ago. She was previously one of the receptionists for our clinic and had a natural ability to make patients feel at ease and welcomed with her warm southern charm. Since joining our department as my "teammate," the quality of our patients' care has increased two-fold. On day one, she didn't hesitate to pick up the phone and start fielding calls as though she had been doing it for years. She took it upon herself to gain education about HIV and all things relevant to our patient's healthcare. She is a true team player willing to help anyone, even if it is not related to the HIV patient population. I have witnessed multiple times her assisting the physicians with issues they brought directly to her because they knew they would not have to worry about it being handled in a timely, professional, and super courteous manner. Laura goes above and beyond every day and has not only made our patients and fellow staff happier but has made my job easier because she is always helping in some way. She truly provides superior service and "Changes What's Possible" every day. We are very lucky to have her as part of ID."- Christopher Podmore

A wealth of knowledge and an astronomical resource

"She assists patients daily by always answering the phone with a smile, and you can hear it in her voice that she's ready and willing to help you. She jumps in to help out immediately when we're trying to figure out how to get a patient in with another clinic - she is a wealth of knowledge and an astronomical resource to us all! The infectious Disease Division is so blessed to have Laura to continue delivering the excellent patient care that she does every day! The best part is that she does it with an amazing, positive attitude that is contagious and infectious to us all!"-Stephanie Kirk, PharmD

A team player

"Laura does an excellent job of entering patient's applications into the system and making sure that they are correct. These applications are very important because our HIV patients receive their medications through this program. She does this in a timely manner, so there is not a delay in the patient getting their medications. She is always nice and willing to help, even if she is having a bad day. She is a huge team player and will do anything to help out a coworker. Her warm and calming tone helps our patients feel comfortable when they call for assistance. She is an asset to the division."-Megan Ohorodnyk

A compassionate person

"Laura is extremely intelligent, and she intuitively understands complex scheduling situations and how to handle them best. She's always willing to help me or any of us with these issues, as well as with others. She is an advocate for the patients we see who are often systematized by their diagnosis, i.e., especially in the case of patients we see for HIV and other infectious diseases. Laura makes a point to get to know the patients who call in with a scheduling problem or an issue. She's a compassionate person who is able to put herself in their shoes and understand that they are often facing difficult situations - medically or otherwise. She handles them with care and discretion. Laura is a person who will go out of her way to help a patient, her fellow colleagues, or anyone needing assistance."-Linda Scott, LPC

An intricate part of the Ryan White Clinic

"Laura is an intricate part of the Ryan White Clinic. She is a real team player and is not afraid to go the extra mile for our patients. It is a joy to work with her daily. Her upbeat spirit and willingness to help is outstanding. One of the areas she manages is the insurance part of our Ryan White Provide Database, which is no small task. She makes sure that the insurance is updated not only in the database but in Epic as well. Laura came to the division from the registration desk on the 7th floor of Rutledge Tower, and she brought her expertise in scheduling and patient communication skills with her. Her knowledge and insight have been a win-win for the Division of Infectious Diseases."-Christine Skope

An awesome person

"Since becoming an official member of the ID team with the Ryan White Grant, Laura has continued to bring her A-game. She is extraordinarily helpful to our patients. Our patients have come to know her over the years and often ask to see her at their office visits. Laura is diligent and reliable in her work. She is a self-motivated team player committed to the success of our patients and the department. Beyond Laura's incredible work values, she is an awesome person. Laura's face is the first you see when walking into her shared office, and she always offers a smile and genuine warm welcoming. She takes a sincere interest in others. Her spirit is bright, and she has a great sense of humor. Laura will always lift you up if you are feeling down because that's just who she is. We are so fortunate to have her on our team. Thank you, Laura, for all you do. You Rock."-Michelle Kubat

A warm, welcoming attitude

"Laura joined our division two years ago and has been a wonderful, positive addition to our team. She answers our patient phone calls with aplomb. She makes sure they are completely taken care of before ending the phone call. She often goes to the clinic to personally speak with patients as she has a warm, welcoming attitude that puts our patients at ease."-Valerie Assey, RN, MSN

A patient advocate

"Laura epitomizes what it means to care for patients genuinely and to go the extra mile. "Admin Assistant" does not even closely describe what Laura does. She is a patient advocate! She helps schedule their appointments and navigate our clinic system, and, at the same time, she is personable and truly makes every patient feel special. Patients know her by name (even if they have only talked to them on the phone). She will also sometimes come down to meet patients and make them feel more comfortable. She always has a smile and a hug for everyone. In addition, she greatly reduces my workload in the process, and when I give her a task, I know that it will get done without me needing to follow up. She is a huge time saver, and she is excellent at her job! She has not been in our division for too long, but her presence has been noticeable and much appreciated since her very first day."-Allison Eckard
