Employee Spotlight: Lisa Burkhardt

Today, we want to recognize Lisa Burkhardt, Finance Administrator for the Department of Medicine Chairman's Office. She has been noted by her colleagues as an invaluable resource, a team player and an asset. She is known as a great advocate for the Department of Medicine and sets the standards. We are proud to have Lisa as part of our team! 

An Invaluable Resource

"It is with great pleasure that I nominate Lisa Burkhardt for employee of the quarter. She is by far one of the most valued and knowledgeable employees within the Department of Medicine (DOM), Administration. She enables me to be successful at my job. She provides great advice and is an invaluable resource for many leaders inside and outside of DOM. During the past few months, we have been feverishly working to complete the Departmental budget for the largest department on campus. Lisa plays a vital role in accurately completing the budget. She takes the time to meet with all Division Administrators to provide a second set of eyes and advice as needed. During this process, Lisa worked late evenings, Saturdays, and Sundays. Without her help, DOM would not have successfully met the College of Medicine's deadline for the FY20 budget. Lisa's dedication to the Department of Medicine is unlike any other. I would be willing to bet that Lisa is one of the longest standing DOM employees with her 20+- years of service. DOM would not be as successful without her help in managing the finances and guiding others in the process." -Elizabeth Swan

A Team Player

"Lisa deserves recognition in Medicine each and every day but especially during our budget season. She worked tirelessly and on many nights and weekends with each division administrator to ensure our budgets were accurate and it is no surprise that the Dean's Office had very few critics of what was submitted. Additionally, without prompting or complaint, Lisa worked to help complete the Hem/Onc budget while the administrator was out on maternity leave-which is no easy task. Lisa continuously shows herself to be a team player and will brag on you and give you all the credit before she would ever take any for herself. She is the absolute best trainer on all things Medicine and has been an asset to Medicine for over 20 years." -Rebekah Shinta

A Great Advocate for the Department of Medicine

"Lisa Burkhardt is a tremendous asset to the Department of Medicine. She is extremely knowledgeable, professional, and is a great advocate for the DOM TEAM. I have relied on her wisdom and guidance on countless occasions over the years. Lisa has been particularly helpful in recent weeks as I have been preparing the budget for my Division. Lisa (and Georgia) worked tirelessly to review budgets and provide feedback to help make sure that what was submitted to COM was accurate. The budget process was relatively painless this year compared to recent years, in large part due to Lisa's diligence and wisdom. This is just one recent example of the value that Lisa brings to her job day in and day out. She is more than deserving of Employee of the Quarter / Employee of the Year recognition." -Brian Collins 

An Asset

"Lisa has been a huge asset throughout my tenure in the DOM and has been a fantastic colleague. She is always willing to help and spends countless hours helping to make things work for not only this division but the whole department. She knows the department's business well and provides thoughtful guidance and feedback on a regular basis with a smile...most of the time :). This is evident daily but a most recent example is during budget season where she helped align our team and push things to ensure success. Personally, having a thoughtful, energetic, and happy colleague like Lisa to lean on has been a huge benefit to me in my position. Her willingness to provide training and historical information has been incredibly helpful to me and many others and I think she deserves to be recognized!" -Mac Houck

Setting the standard for budget preparation and maintenance 

"Lisa has been an incredible resource during the FY20 budget cycle. She has kept all the divisions on notice of deadlines and offered to review and help all of us with whatever issues may arise. When there is a question or need to regroup on a budget issue, she makes time on her schedule to help, even if it requires staying late or coming in early. She has done all of this since early February while still maintaining her FY19 budget responsibilities. This is very tedious, task oriented work that requires a great deal of organizational skill. It is not an understatement that our budgets would not be completed as accurately or timely without Lisa's contribution to the process. The COM has recognized the DOM for setting the standard for budget preparation and maintenance primarily due to Lisa's work."-Steve Vinciguerra
