Updated eighth floor optimizes teaching and learning

MUSC is justifiably proud of the high quality of its residents and its residency program. But the work space on the eighth floor of the Clinical Sciences Building dedicated to residents and fellows was outdated. Having been built in 1975, the space was not optimal for current teaching and research. Now, thanks to your generous gifts to the Department of Medicine (DOM) Research and Education fund, that space has been updated and modernized, thus strengthening our teaching and research programs and enhancing patient care.

“The core difference is that there is now much more space for the full care team—attending physicians, upper level residents, pharmacists, interns and medical students—to interact and coordinate care, which in turn enhances patient care and outcomes.” - Devin Blankinship, M.D.

The new space is an open, contemporary, functional work area that is much more operationally efficient than before, said Devin Blankinship, M.D., one of the chief residents. “The core difference is that there is now much more dedicated conference space for the full care team — attending physicians, upper level residents, pharmacists, interns, and medical students — to collaborate and coordinate care, which in turn enhances patient care and outcomes,” Blankinship said. The renovation also significantly expands and fully integrates technology usage throughout the teaching and research program. The space accommodates residents across multiple programs and enables DOM to enhance both collaboration and innovation, two of the core values at the Medical University of South Carolina

MUSC is deeply grateful for your compassionate support, which helps us educate and train the next generation of physicians.
