Maria Hoffman

Today, we want to recognize Maria Hoffman, Sarcoidosis Program Manager, in the Division of Pulmonary & Critical Care. Maria Hoffman works tirelessly to improve patient access, patient satisfaction, and clinic density. She is a vital part of Pulmonary & Critical Care's administrative team, and we are proud to have Maria in the Department of Medicine!

Key Attributes:

Since joining MUSC… Maria has worked tirelessly to improve patient access, patient satisfaction, clinic density and best use of resources to grow and enhance the sarcoidosis program at MUSC.

Since Maria has joined the division as the Sarcoidosis Program Manager, the program has become more efficient and outpatient quality of care has improved.

Maria has streamlined workflows to ensure patients are scheduled properly and with the necessary testing. Each new patient referral is reviewed by the Sarcoidosis team to ensure we have necessary records and that the patient gets the appointment they need.

She has also reduced the patient no show rate, same day cancellation rate, and appointment lag time in the year she has been here.

Her ability to take the strategic plan and turn it into actionable items has proven her value in this role and we have received much positive feedback from those involved.

Maria is always willing and offers to help out the division in a time of need, no matter the task or complexity. This was evident during the COVID surge when she stepped into assist with operationalizing virtual visits and contributing to our new administrative initiatives.

Lastly, I am very pleased to see her camaraderie flourish with her colleagues and team members, which has made a valuable impact on the organization culture of the Pulmonary Division.

Maria has done a terrific job since Day 1 in her role in the Sarcoidosis Center. Many changes were needed to re-align the direction of the Center to the intent of the donor.
Her contributions to the endowment report were integral in producing a terrific document that celebrates all that Susan has done for the Center.

Maria has played a central role in getting Susan to feel better about her overall relationship to the Division and to MUSC. This has impacted the family's willingness to consider additional philanthropy in the future that will only expand the services we can offer to Sarcoid patients.
