Foregut & Metabolic Surgery

The Division of Foregut and Metabolic Surgery was established in 2021 to serves as a center of excellence with a focus on advancing innovation in comprehensive clinical care for patients undergoing surgical therapy for the treatment of severe obesity. We offer a full range of bariatric and foregut surgeries with a clinical expertise in laparoscopic and robotic surgical procedures.

The MUSC Health Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Program includes an experienced interdisciplinary team of bariatric surgeons, coordinators, and clinicians  dedicated to supporting patients in their weight loss journey. Our surgeons are experts in the Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass, the Sleeve Gastrectomy, and the Biliopancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch.

We are accredited to perform weight loss surgery on adolescents by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program  of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

Our surgeons also have expertise in treating inguinal, ventral and paraoesophageal hernias, and gastroesophageal reflux disease.

With one of the most robust robotic programs in the country, we are dedicated to the education of our medical students, surgical residents and fellows in the art of bariatric, laparoscopic and robotic surgery.
