Allen Bui, M.D., Integrated Vascular Surgery Graduate

Allen Bui, M.D. was born in Ben Tre, Vietnam to Hoi Bui and Phuong Ha. He has three older brothers and one older sister. Allen was eleven years old when he and his family immigrated to the United States settling down in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Allen started learning English during middle school and with much dedication and hard work, he graduated high school as valedictorian of his class.

He received his undergraduate education at Louisiana State University A&M where majored in Biology with a minor in both Chemistry and Business Administration.

After college, he worked as a research associate for one year before moving to New Orleans where he began medical school at LSU Health and Science Center.

Allen found his calling in vascular surgery during his 3rd year while rotating on the vascular surgery service.  Following graduation from medical school, Allen moved to Charleston to start residency training in Vascular Surgery.

Besides his passion for vascular surgery, outside of the hospital Allen enjoys baking, cooking, and good fantasy novels.

It has been five years since he moved to Charleston, and he will miss his MUSC colleagues and mentors. He is excited to move back to Louisiana to be near his family.

Allen will be joining Acadiana Vascular Clinic in Lafayette, Louisiana and will start practicing in August.

It has been 5 years since I started residency training at MUSC and while there were many sleepless nights during that time there have been just as many happy moments. Prior to residency, I did not know much regarding the program at MUSC, but after interviewing, I felt I would fit in and receive great training if I matched to the program here.

During the ranking process, I remember my father saying, “I am thinking you will end up at MUSC” and during match when I opened my envelope, I was happy to see MUSC. I never could have imagined what awaited me over the next five years: the incredible people I would meet and work alongside, the outstanding attending surgeons that I'd learn from, and the number of patients whose Iives and stories would forever become a part of my own.

Allen Bui testimonial

I would like to thank all the staff in the Department of Surgery and especially the Division of Vascular Surgery. I would like to thank Dr. Robison for starting program and Dr. Veeraswamy for continuing and expanding the program.

Moreover, I would like to thank each of the attendings who have been part of my training, instilling in me their knowledge each and every day. I would also like to thank my co-residents who have always been there for me and helped me along the way. It has been a joy to laugh and learn alongside each of you.

Allen Bui thank you

Last but not least, thank you to my loving family who has been supportive of me on my road to pursue a career in medicine. Especially, my parents who have sacrificed many things in their life to raised me and my siblings.

Dr. Bui thanks his parents for their support
