Daniel Crane, M.D. Plastic Surgery Independent Chief

Daniel Crane, M.D., was born and raised in Rochester, NY. 

He graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology.  During college, Dan spent two summers with the Sasisekharan Lab in the Department of Biological Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His work there contributed to a Nature publication as well as the founding of a biotechnology start-up. He also completed a clinical research internship at the University of Rochester Medical Center in the Department of Nuclear Cardiology where he investigated the relationship between chest pain and ischemia during stress testing.

After graduation, Dan was part of a basic science research team for one year in the Schwarz Lab at University of Rochester Center for Musculoskeletal Research where he investigated treatment options for multi drug resistant infections following skeletal trauma for soldiers injured in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) using a mouse model. 

He attended medical school at the Sackler School of Medicine in Tel Aviv, Israel and surgical residency at the University of Buffalo, where he won the ABSITE Score Award and was subsequently selected by faculty to lead a team of residents competing for top ABSITE score. While in residency in Buffalo, Dan was also recognized with the Worthington B. Schenk Resident Teacher of the Year Award. 

During Dan's MUSC independent plastic surgery residency, he was awarded the ASPS Resident Abstract Session Best Presentation Award at Plastic Surgery- The Meeting 2019, the premier educational and networking event for both domestic and international plastic surgeons. He was also awarded the Silver Scalpel award by the division of plastic surgery at MUSC for the best research presentation during his final year of training  

After graduation from MUSC, Dan has been selected to complete a one-year fellowship in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery in Sacramento California.
