Sean Dieffenbaugher, M.D. Surgical Critical Care Fellow

Sean Dieffenbaugher, M.D. was born in Bakersfield, CA, to Jeff and Teresa  Dieffenbaugher but spent most of his childhood in southeast Louisiana and Houston, Texas. He has an older brother, Scott.

Sean attended Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Summa Cum Laude. He received his medical degree from the McGovern Medical School, The University of Texas Health Science Center. He continued his medical education with a general surgery residency at the McGovern Medical School. He served as the administrative chief. During medical training, he also participated in Frontera de Salud, an interdisciplinary student run organization focused on service to underserved communities in Texas. In 2018, Sean was named the Raleigh Ross Scholar by the Texas Surgical Society. In 2019, he received the Chief Resident Professionalism Award and "Clinical Trauma Research" 1st Place in the Southeastern Trauma Symposium competition. 

Upon graduation, Sean matched into the Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at MUSC, where he has been active in education and research. he has presented at numerous conferences throughout the year, including platform presentations at the Southeastern Trauma Symposium in Columbia, SC and virtual poster presentations at the Chest Wall Injury Summit.  

At MUSC, Sean has been instrumental as an instructor in the Advanced Trauma Life Support, facilitator in the MUSC Surgical Clerkship Simulation Center, MUSC Joint Neurosurgery-Trauma Conference, and MUSC Joint Emergency Medicine-Trauma Conference.
