Summer Institute

Chris Powers, Manager of Recruitment and Diversity Education, presenting to a group of students.

Description

The Summer Institute is a six-week program designed to help increase MCAT scores and provide professional development for aspiring medical school applicants. At the recommendation of the Admissions Committee, students are invited to apply for the program. Students who are accepted into the program take courses at MUSC administered by the Center for Academic Excellence. At the end of the program, students receive a certificate of completion. Along with the courses, opportunities to interact with health care providers and weekly seminars will be provided. Special topics include financial counseling, health disparities, wellness, writing personal statements, time management, and mock interviews.

Objective

The purpose of the Summer Institute is to increase the number of under-represented minority students and students from underserved areas of South Carolina who are matriculating into the medical profession.

Dates

Late June to August.

Apply

The application is currently closed and will reopen in the Spring of 2020.
