Hi, and thanks for checking out the Pediatric Primary Care Residency at MUSC!

We started this program in 2011 to train pediatricians who are not only great at primary care but also deeply connected to the communities they serve. Since then, more than 90% of our graduates have gone into primary care—staying here in South Carolina or heading as far as Arizona and California.

Because we take just three residents a year, you’ll join a small, supportive group where your goals matter. At the same time, you’ll benefit from all the resources of a large academic medical center. From community clinics like Northwoods—where you’ll care for underserved, primarily Spanish-speaking families—to advanced hospital training, you’ll build confidence, independence, and skills that set you apart.

We also offer extras like a dedicated primary care curriculum, procedure training, certifications, and even Rosetta Stone to sharpen your medical Spanish. Our program grows and adapts each year based on resident input—that’s one of the best things about being small.

And then there’s Charleston. Between the beaches, food, sunshine, and people, it’s an amazing place to live and recharge outside of residency.

I’m so proud of this program and our residents. I hope you’ll consider joining us—and please reach out if you have questions.

Kind Regards,

Rachael Zweigoron, MD
