What We Do

There are many ways that EMPOWERR gets involved with our community. You can find us tabling in Charleston, Dorchester, and Berkeley counties with a plethora of resources, information, and games. We table at high school cafeterias, school district events, and community programming to normalize talking about adolescent health.

Four team members standing behind a table that displays games and informationThroughout the year, our Health Educator is providing evidence-based programming in schools, with the Department of Juvenile Justice, at group homes, in libraries, with summer camps, and so much more. To make our EMPOWERR as accessible as possible, we offer transportation for adolescents and caregivers that need assistance making it to our programs. For those who are unable to attend our programming, we also have active social media accounts that deliver skills, information, and guidance to adolescents. Follow EMPOWERR's Instagram page for teen-friendly resources.

When we aren't implementing evidence-based curricula, we are creating it. EMPOWERR is collaborating with local nonprofits, state agencies, and field experts to create FIRRE, an educational risk-reduction group. The curriculum was created in coordination with mental health clinicians, health educators, nurse practitioners, and trafficking-survivor/lived experience experts. The purpose of FIRRE is to provide valuable information and resources to teens and caregivers in our community, with a focus on trafficking prevention.
