Conference Description

Rapid developments in methods for cardiovascular (CV) disease risk evaluation and recent advances in pharmacological and procedural strategies for management of cardiometabolic risk factors have significantly improved our ability to identify and treat at-risk patients. Join our internationally renowned faculty for updates on contemporary understanding of cardiovascular disease risk algorithms, polygenic risk scores, biomarkers and CV risk, preventive imaging, and female specific risk factors and learn how to incorporate strategies for personalization of risk assessment for each of your unique patients.  Develop skills in recognizing the early, multi-system signs of cardiometabolic disease beyond the heart, including metabolic liver and renal diseases and consider newer pharmacological strategies for organ protection. Targeting obesity is now imperative, particularly in at-risk patients early in the cardiometabolic continuum. Advance your skills in designing a comprehensive management strategy that includes lifestyle, as well as groundbreaking anti-obesity medications and surgical approaches to weight management. The landscape of lipid pharmacotherapy has never been more expansive and the most recent expert guidance on incorporation of these agents into clinical practice will be considered. Conference Objectives

At the completion of this conference, participants should be able to:

1. Incorporate comprehensive cardiovascular risk assessment into routine clinical practice and personalize evaluation based on the patient’s unique risk profile.
2. Formulate treatment strategies to target obesity early in the cardiometabolic risk continuum.
3. Select pharmacotherapy for management of dyslipidemia and reduction of cardiovascular risk based on current scientific evidence and expert guidance.
4. Intervene early for renal and hepatic protection in patients with cardiometabolic disease.

Access to Recorded Presentations

The MUSC Office of CME, with the permission of each speaker, will be recording each presentation of the conference. The videos will be posted online after the conference and be available for those who are not able to live stream the entire conference. Viewing the videos will offer the same amount of CME credit and can be viewed for up to 14 days following the posting date. The non-refundable fee for this service is $100.00 and is only available to individuals registered for the conference. Access to the videos will be granted to attendees who purchase this option in advance of the conference.

Early registration fees apply if registration is received on or before November 30, 2023.

*Please note: for virtual registrations, a minimum number of participants must register to be able to offer the virtual meeting. If this minimum is not met, you will be notified by February 1, 2024, and will be given the option to change to in-person registration or receive a full refund. If the virtual registration option is canceled, the video access option would also be canceled and a refund will be issued to anyone that purchased access to the videos.

The fee for in-person attendance includes tuition, breaks, online syllabus and certificates of attendance. The fee for live streaming the meeting includes tuition, online syllabus, and certificates of attendance.  The fee for virtual attendance is higher due to the added cost of offering a virtual program.

Pandemic Uncertainty

The lack of certainty about the future trajectory of the pandemic makes it difficult to make an informed decision about almost everything.  With this in mind, we have listed some key points to consider as you decide between the in-person registration and the virtual registration:

While masks are currently* not required, we encourage the use of masks for individuals at risk of complications from COVID-19, including older adults and individuals who are immunocompromised or who have pre-existing conditions. If a mask is worn, it should fit well around the nose and mouth. Cloth masks are not recommended unless they are covering a surgical mask underneath.

We will not be offering COVID testing onsite at the conference. If you are traveling internationally, please refer to the CDC Requirements for International Travelers prior to making your arrangements. For everyone flying to Charleston, we suggest purchasing travel insurance in the event your trip is cancelled.

* New mask mandates may be implemented in the future as indicated to protect the health of our community.

Cancellation

A refund will be made upon written request prior to January 16, 2024; however, $50 will be retained for administrative costs. No refunds will be made after January 16, 2024. We reserve the right to cancel the program if necessary. Full registration fees will be refunded for canceled programs. By registering for this conference, you agree to this cancellation policy.
