Dr. Balasubramanian:

  • Cancer survivorship
  • Mind-body intervention
  • Yogic breathing, biomarkers

Dr. Balasubramanian studies patient-reported outcomes and biomarker alterations in response to yogic breathing during various phases of cancer survivorship. Other research areas include aging, scleroderma, and health & wellness.

Please Dr. Balasubramanian's TEDxCharleston talk on this subject (please click this link): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIfwbEvXtwo

Dr. Tilman Emrich:

  • Clinical cardiovascular imaging applications for Photon Counting Computed Tomography (PC-CT)

Dr. Roberts:

  • EPSCoR MRI Imaging of the Brain in Microgravity (Space Station) - the research is focused on understanding how gravity can affect brain health here on Earth and in astronauts undergoing long-term space missions on the International Space Station. – Students requirements for this project are MUSC CITI training & be in the MUSC IRB.

We are trying to understand how gravity may impact brain function in order to make space travel safer. We are working on several projects examining changes to the brain in different gravity conditions. In order to make the most of your time, please already have completed Miami CITI Biomed Investigators AND Good Clinical Practice. These two courses can be found by googling MUSC CITI training.

Dr. Schoepf:

  • Plaque Stratification Using CCTA in Coronary Artery Disease (PoSTCARD)
  • Comparison of prognostic value of negative SPECT, ICA and CCTA in patients with suspected coronary artery disease
  • Using Artificial Intelligence for the automated analysis of chest or cardiac CTs

The Schoepf Lab is one of the most recognized research facilities in Cardiovascular Imaging with CT and MRI, also involving Deep Learning and Artificial Intelligence. Recent work can be found at: PubMed Search for Dr. Schoepf We have a long history of mentoring students.

Dr. Spampinato / Dr. Roberts:

  • The use of artificial intelligence to quantify disease burden in brain MRI scans of patients with multiple sclerosis

Dr. Varga-Szemes:

  • Comprehensive MRI Evaluation in Patients with Congenital Heart Disease
  • Dotarem for Myocardial Perfusion Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance
  • Multi-modality gallstone and kidney stone characterization
