Pathways & Engagement at the College of Medicine

A core mission of the College of Medicine is to create an environment that fosters cultural understanding, cultural competency, and opportunities for individuals of all backgrounds. To support this mission and our vision to become a nationally recognized model of excellence for U.S. medical schools, the Pathway Resources & Impactful Mentoring and Engagement (PRIME) Division works to support all students, residents, and faculty by implementing mentorship and professional development programs designed to ensure that we are providing the best health care teams for all South Carolinians.

Pathway Programs

Pathway programs engage students in middle, high school, and undergraduate school in a mentoring process (academic and professional) that prepares them for a future career in medicine.

Students

Programs for current students promote a collegial, collaborative environment where all students feel welcome.

Residents & Fellows

Programming for Resident and Fellows through the Graduate Medical Education (GME) office, residency training directors, and faculty has directly impacted our recruitment of trainees from different backgrounds and multicultural experiences.

Faculty

MUSC is growing the number of faculty and health care providers in order to provide the best training for our students and trainees and deliver the best health care for all South Carolinians. We are developing additional mentorship and engagement programs in collaboration with leaders throughout the College of Medicine and with the Division for Organizational Engagement and Excellence to support all of our faculty from different backgrounds and multicultural experiences.

Aequitas Health Medical Honor Society

MUSC was one of the founding chapters of the Aequitas Health Medical Honor Society. New students, as well as one new trainee and faculty member, are inducted annually into the Honor Society to foster a community of individuals who are passionate about serving the community through varied initiatives.
