Student Life

Student Affairs

The Group on Student Affairs (GSA) exists to provide support and guidance to students throughout their medical school experience. Our team of professionals is dedicated to helping each medical student achieve optimal professional growth and development. The GSA serves students through a wide variety of activities. For example, in consultation with other key stakeholders, we plan most major student events from MS1 orientation through graduation.

We participate in the development and administration of many policies that impact the quality of life and campus resources available to medical students. We provide support and advisement to student council and all recognized student groups. We also provide the longitudinal Careers in Medicine (CiM) course to assist each medical student in finding the right career path. Our goal is to be of service to you and so we welcome all opportunities to assist you in becoming a truly outstanding medical professional.

Student Travel Grant Programs

The Student Travel Grant Reimbursement affords students with the opportunity to present at in-state, out of state, and international conferences and receive a reimbursement for qualified travel expenses. Travel grants can help students gain new knowledge and skills and connect with professionals and peers in their field.

The College of Medicine Student Travel Grant Award is supported exclusively by charitable gifts from College of Medicine Alumni and Dean's Office. The purpose of the Travel Grant Award is to provide funding for College of Medicine students to travel and present at state, national and international conferences.

There are three (3) travel grants that students can apply for:

  • General Student Travel Grant supports student travel to present scholarly presentations at in-state, national, or international conferences.
  • Community Engagement Travel supports student travel to present scholarly work and research related to community engagement and service.
  • Global Health Travel provides support for students approved for global health research projects and participation in immersive scholarly experiences.

Please email smallsv@musc.edu to inquire about the Student Travel Grant Application Process.

Food Assistance Program

The Food Assistance Program (PDF) was created to address food insecurity concerns experienced by MUSC students. Acknowledging that food insecurity is a spectrum, the Food Assistance Program is accessible to all students at MUSC. Students needing assistance will complete the online request form via the Student Programs and Student Engagement (SPSD) website. A member of the SPSD staff will make contact with students, walk them through the remainder of the intake process, and provide students with a gift card from one of our grocery vendors. The gift cards vary in amount and will be distributed based on each student's need and circumstance.
