The MUSC Department of Medicine is proud to announce the Internal Medicine Residency Program’s Chief Residents for 2027–2028. These outstanding physicians have been selected for their leadership, commitment to teaching and scholarship, and dedication to advancing both our residency program and department. They will officially begin their chief roles in July 2027.
The 2027-2028 Chief Residents include:
Hayley Fowler, M.D.
Hayley Fowler, M.D.
Chief Resident, Internal Medicine
Dr. Fowler grew up in Goose Creek, South Carolina, and completed her undergraduate studies at Clemson University. She went on to earn her medical degree at the Medical University of South Carolina.
Following her chief residency, Dr. Fowler is interested in becoming a Primary Care Physician.
Outside of medicine, she enjoys taking her dogs to the beach, hiking, snowboarding, reading, and soccer.
Mark Mandak, M.D.
Mark Mandak, M.D.
Chief Resident, Internal Medicine
Dr. Mark Mandak grew up in Enola, Pennsylvania, and completed his undergraduate studies at Washington & Jefferson College. He went on to earn his medical degree at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine.
Following his chief residency, Dr. Mandak is interested in a fellowship in Gastroenterology. His area of interest is Interventional Gastroenterology.
Outside of medicine, he enjoys surfing, sailing, fishing, boating, skiing, and golfing.
Megan Minchak, M.D.
Megan Minchak, M.D.
Chief Resident, Internal Medicine
Dr. Minchak grew up in Blackwood, New Jersey, and completed her undergraduate studies in the College of Charleston Honors College in Charleston, SC. She went on to earn her medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina.
Following her chief residency, Dr. Minchak plans to pursue a career as a Primary Care Physician, working in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Dr. Minchak’s clinical and research interests include improving access to care in underserved populations.
Outside of medicine, she enjoys reading, playing pickleball, indoor cycling, and going to the beach.
Michael Vinzani, M.D.

Chief Resident, VA Quality & Patient Safety
Dr. Michael Vinzani grew up in Charleston, South Carolina, and completed his undergraduate studies at the University of South Carolina. He went on to earn his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina.
Following his chief residency, Dr. Vinzani is interested in a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care. His research interests include the impact of fistula ligation on morbidity, mortality, and hemodynamic outcomes in patients with pulmonary hypertension secondary to ESRD.
Outside of medicine, he enjoys backpacking/camping, SCUBA Diving, Dungeons & Dragons, Running, Pickleball/Tennis, Boating, and Guitar/Banjo.
