The MUSC Bronchiectasis and Nontuberculous Mycobacteria (NTM) Program has been redesignated as a Bronchiectasis and NTM Association Care Center Network (CCN) Care Center, reaffirming MUSC’s leadership in delivering specialized, multidisciplinary care for patients with bronchiectasis and NTM lung disease.
Following a recent annual review site visit, the CCN review team praised MUSC’s highly effective multidisciplinary team, strong pulmonary and infectious diseases partnership, robust clinical infrastructure, integrated research and quality improvement culture, and active educational environment for trainees. The designation has been renewed for five years.
MUSC was initially accepted into the national Care Center Network in 2025, becoming one of just 33 sites in the country—and the only designated center in South Carolina—recognized for expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of bronchiectasis and NTM lung disease.
Led by Patrick Flume, M.D., the program brings together pulmonologists, infectious disease specialists, nurse practitioners, nurse coordinators, pharmacists, psychologists, respiratory therapists, dietitians, social workers, genetic counselors and administrative staff to provide comprehensive, coordinated care. The program has grown from a once-a-month clinic more than two decades ago into the Southeast’s largest program dedicated to NTM and bronchiectasis, now operating four days each week to meet growing demand.
The redesignation underscores MUSC’s continued commitment to advancing access, outcomes, education and research for patients living with these complex lung diseases.
