Orangeburg Rural Family Medcine Residency

Message from the Program Director

Welcome to the MUSC Family Medicine Rural Residency Program in Orangeburg.

It is a privilege to serve a community that truly values the role of the family physician. Here, we train residents to provide truly holistic care—from prenatal and surgical obstetrics and postpartum care, pediatrics to geriatrics and a broad range of inpatient medicine and office-based medicine.

Our mission is to reduce health disparities by preparing you for the distinct landscape of rural health care. Rather than focusing solely on resource constraints, we celebrate the unique rewards of rural practice, teaching you to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care through innovation and deep community connection.

For those passionate about women's health, our program offers a robust path forward. With two faculty members holding advanced training in Obstetrics, we are dedicated to helping our residents achieve the ACGME’s criteria for Comprehensive Maternal Care. To  develop the knowledge, skills and ability to provide intrapartum care,  vaginal deliveries, and postpartum and infant care, we provide the volume and mentorship to get you there.

We believe the best medicine is practiced with humility and compassion. We invite you to join us in this vital work.
