Advanced Fellowship in Transplant Hepatology

The MUSC Transplant Hepatology Fellowship is a one-year, ACGME-accredited advanced training program designed to prepare physicians for careers in transplant hepatology and advanced liver disease management. Through comprehensive clinical training and multidisciplinary collaboration, fellows develop expertise in the evaluation and management of patients with acute and chronic liver disease, liver transplantation, and post-transplant care.

Fellows work closely with faculty from hepatology, transplant surgery, pathology, radiology, interventional radiology, and critical care to provide comprehensive care for patients with complex liver disease. Training emphasizes both inpatient and outpatient management.

The fellowship provides extensive exposure to all aspects of transplant hepatology, including:

  • Liver transplant evaluation and candidate selection
  • Pre- and post-transplant management
  • Management of decompensated cirrhosis and acute liver failure
  • Hepatocellular carcinoma and multidisciplinary tumor board participation
  • Interpretation of liver biopsy and hepatic imaging
  • Opportunities to serve as attending physician on our inpatient liver transplant service

Fellows participate in continuity clinics, multidisciplinary conferences, and transplant selection meetings, fostering progressive autonomy and clinical decision-making skills.
