Research

General Internal Medicine Division research, conducted at the highest scientific standards, targets research areas such as health care disparities, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, access to care of underserved populations, aging and geriatric care, professional education, and medical informatics. Clinical and health services research is conducted in collaboration with faculty of the Department of Public Health Sciences, College of Medicine, the College of Nursing, SC College of Pharmacy, College of Health Professions, and the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center.

Center for Health Disparities Research

Focused on research, training, and outreach surrounding ethnic, socioeconomic, and rural/urban disparities in health, the Center for Health Disparities Research (CHDR) is one of the leading centers of its kind. The center brings together core faculty from several MUSC Colleges to develop clinical research infrastructure and enhance MUSC's competitiveness in obtaining extramural research support in health disparities research. The CHDR emphasizes collaborative research to build bridges across colleges on campus and across institutions within the state of South Carolina.

Section of Health Systems Research & Policy

The Section of Health Systems Research & Policy performs collaborative health systems research and quality improvement initiatives to ensure efficient and effective delivery of high quality, clinically appropriate prevention and care strategies to optimize population health and well-being. The Section’s areas of expertise include predictive analytics and modeling, outcomes assessment, process engineering and informatics, and technology assessment (e.g., Telemedicine, Bluetooth).
