The Thoracic Oncology Research Group is a robust research group that is active across the state of South Carolina with dedicated research staff serving South Carolinians in locations including Charleston, Florence, Marion, Lancaster, Chester, Columbia, and Kershaw. Led by Dr. Gerard Silvestri, the Thoracic Oncology Research Group is involved in research directed towards nearly every aspect of lung cancer. The areas of research the group is involved with include:
- Lung cancer
- Lung cancer screening
- Biomarker test develop for early cancer detection
- Device evaluation
- Multi-cancer early detection test development
- Disparities in healthcare
