Medical Students

Thank you for visiting the MUSC PM&R medical student information page! We are enthusiastic about showing our students a wide range of experiences during your rotation with us. Students spend time with our inpatient and outpatient services including non-surgical musculoskeletal clinics, acute consult service, prosthetics and orthotics, neurorehabilitation clinics, EMG clinic, and pediatric rehabilitation at our children’s hospital. We also encourage the students to gain a greater understanding of the patient experience outside the hospital setting by providing a list of extracurricular activities in Charleston for people with disabilities (and their families.) These therapeutic recreation activities may include volunteering to join adaptive sports such as kick ball, swimming, pickleball, golf, or a hip hop dance class, hosted by local organizations that offer inclusive programming. We hope you expand your clinical knowledge on your rotation, make meaningful memories with patients, and have fun!

Meet our Clerkship Co-Directors

Photo of Dr Renee hugging a plastic skeleton I encourage my patients to share their goals and hobbies with me so that I may tailor their treatment to meet their specific needs. I have a passion for understanding the patient experience, as many patients we care for within PM&R have had recent life-altering events or manage chronic medical conditions. I challenge our students to channel their unique interests and incorporate them into their practice of medicine to improve patient’s well-being and function.

photo of Dr Keith sitting at the deskI chose a career in PM&R because of my desire to help patients achieve their goals, alleviate pain, and improve quality of life. I am passionate about both the clinical and educational aspects of the field and love sharing this passion with others. Whether you just want to learn more about the field or are firmly committed to becoming a physiatrist, I am excited to learn more about your interests and help you achieve your goals.
