The Addiction Sciences Division (ASD) within the MUSC Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is one of the nation’s premier academic settings for the study and treatment of addiction. In a highly collaborative environment, ASD’s multidisciplinary teams pursue a robust portfolio of innovative research spanning the full translational spectrum, dedicated to understanding and addressing substance use and co-occurring conditions across the lifespan. ASD’s basic, translational, and clinical research endeavors are complemented by state-of-the-art front-line clinical services and programs spanning education, mentorship, and community engagement. ASD faculty engage in national and international collaborations and serve in an array of leadership roles with prominent professional organizations.
The ASD has a multidisciplinary faculty of more than 30 full-time M.D.s and Ph.D.s with expertise ranging from pharmacology and psychology, to adult, and child psychiatry. The ASD is truly translational in its approach to research, clinical care, and training. Our objective is to utilize the latest technology and scientific knowledge to make discoveries that ultimately improve patient care outcomes.
