Addiction Sciences Division

The Addiction Sciences Division (ASD) within the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is one of the nation’s premier academic settings for the study and treatment of addiction.

The ASD has a multidisciplinary faculty of more than 30 full-time M.D.s and Ph.D.s with expertise ranging from pharmacology and psychology, to adult, and child psychiatry. The ASD is truly translational in its approach to research, clinical care, and training. Our objective is to utilize the latest technology and scientific knowledge to make discoveries that ultimately improve patient care outcomes.

Addictions Treatment Center

The Addictions Treatment Center offers an array of clinical services for the treatment of alcohol and substance use disorders, forming a continuum of patient care.

Clinical Services

Our program aims to serve a wide range of individuals, including those new to addiction treatment, as well as those in need of maintenance care. We offer an array of treatment options, including Intensive Outpatient, Individual Outpatient, Psychiatric Evaluation and Management, Medication Assisted Therapy (MAT) for Opioid Use Disorder, Evaluation and Treatment for Medical Professionals and Attorneys, Interventions, Biomarker Screening, and Research Participation. Below is a non-exhaustive list of issues for which we offer treatment:

  • Alcohol Use Disorder
  • Alcohol Withdrawal
  • Opioid Use Disorder
  • Opioid Withdrawal
  • Substance Use Disorder
  • Co-occurring Substance Use Disorder with Depression and/or Anxiety

Accessing Services 

Most of our services can be accessed both virtually and in person. New patients seeking care can access our services without an appointment by calling 843-792-5200, Monday-Friday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, first come, first served.

Mental health and substance use disorder services can be provided within an individual's home via any device (iPhone, android, iPad, desktop/laptop computer with internet access, and telephone).
