Student Psychiatry Interest Group

The Student Psychiatry Interest Group (SPIG) is a large (and growing) and very active student-led group that was formed to foster:

  • Knowledge of current psychiatric practice and standards of care.
  • A desire to pursue a career in the ever-evolving field of psychiatry.
  • A love of the discipline that will translate to the highest quality of care for those with mental disorders and their families in the future.

The student interest group is actively involved in many campus activities as well as community outreach projects, and was the recipient of a grant award from the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ACNP) to help support the SPIG High School Outreach Project.

Elections are held each spring for officer positions, and this group plans and coordinates many activities throughout the year. Dr. Thomas Lewis serves as the faculty advisor.
