ATLS courses rely on a knowledgeable, prepared, and friendly group of ATLS Instructors.
Instructor Code of Conduct
Instructors must:
- Provide timely communication to the ATLS director and coordinators with direct contact information.
- Be punctual and prepared for courses.
- Disclose and resolve and conflict of interest prior to the course.
- Adopt ATLS methods of teaching including interactive discussions, unfolding case-scenario skills stations, and 5-step skills teaching.
- Promote course principles.
- Treat all ATLS staff, faculty, volunteers, and participants with respect.
- Acknowledge and respect different beliefs, backgrounds, values, and cultures of the participants.
- Report discrimination, bullying, and sexual harassment.
- Abide by local community or hospital guidelines for safety and security including infection control standards.
- ATLS Instructors are not guaranteed access to MUSC courses for teaching.
- MUSC Trauma Program reserves the right to remove ATLS instructors from the roster for MUSC courses.
Instructors Needed per Class:
Provider: 4-12. AM Skills x 4, PM Skills x 4, Testing x 4 (if class of 16)
Refresher: 4-8. Skills x 4, Testing x 4
Instructor: 2
Instructor Payments: (Resident instructors only).
$20/hour paid after their instructor candidate check-off course.
For example: Skills Station I in the provider course = 4 hours = $80.
