Post-Baccalaureate Reapplication Education Program (PREP)

Dr. Hood Watson speaking to a group of students.

Description

PREP aims to prepare promising students for medical school who are dedicated to improving health outcomes in medically underserved or economically disadvantaged communities in South Carolina. PREP students engage in post-baccalaureate courses to prepare them for medical school. Students who successfully meet all PREP requirements are admitted to the College of Medicine. Upon recommendation of the Admissions Committee, students are invited to apply for the program. We encourage individuals with a strong interest in practicing in rural, medically underserved or economically disadvantaged areas in SC and in addressing health disparities in the communities they serve to apply to PREP. This includes students from rural background, first-generation college students, students with disability, and others passionate about improving health outcomes. Two to three students participate in this program each year.
