Why MUSC AnMed

Students who choose MUSC AnMed receive hands-on medical training with multiple opportunities to explore primary care and specialized fields of medicine.

Smaller class sizes allow students to build close relationships with their faculty and peers. Additionally, the favorable student-to-faculty ratio provides more opportunities for hands-on experiences.

Opportunities Include:

  • Longitudinal Continuity Clinic: Third-year students manage chronic medical illnesses for their own group of patients at the Anderson Free Clinic, with supervision from a core group of preceptors.
  • Essentials in Primary Care Course: Students attend weekly primary care classes during their third year.
  • Simulation Lab: Students have access to the MUSC AnMed simulation lab, which includes skill-specific models and ultrasound training mannequins to improve procedural skills.

My third-year experience at MUSC AnMed has been an excellent one. I've really enjoyed the time spent one-on-one with attendings and the individual attention that I got from staff here. Patient continuity of care was excellent here, and we just had a really good time getting to know our attendings and other students well.

Year 3 Curriculum

During their third year, students at the MUSC AnMed campus complete core clerkships comparable to those at the MUSC Charleston campus. Additionally, students participate in sessions for community building, workshops, skills labs, case presentations, faculty lectures, service learning activities, wellness events, and more.

Year 4 Curriculum

MUSC College of Medicine students at both the Charleston and AnMed campuses complete the same fourth-year requirements, as well as unique electives and opportunities for away rotations.

At MUSC AnMed, students can choose from 40 electives that are two or four weeks long, depending on preference. This allows students to experience a wider range of specialty care.
