Division of Nephrology

Lead innovation in kidney health through clinical excellence, cutting-edge research, and advanced training that shapes the future of nephrology together.

The Division of Nephrology treats kidney disease at every stage — from early chronic kidney disease through transplantation — at MUSC Health, the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center, and dialysis units across the Lowcountry. Our nationally recognized faculty pair rigorous science with attentive, personal care. Our investigators pursue discoveries that change how physicians treat kidney disease, and our General Nephrology and Transplant Nephrology fellowships train the specialists South Carolina will depend on next. As we recruit new physicians and expand transplant services, we work toward a future in which fewer South Carolinians face kidney failure.

Education

Our ACGME-accredited General Nephrology fellowship trains physicians across four consult services, home dialysis, and transplant, with protected research time in both years. A one-year Transplant Nephrology fellowship extends that training, at one of the nation's 20 busiest transplant centers — nearly 400 kidney transplants each year.

Faculty collaborate across disciplines, excelling in clinical trials, genetics, proteomics, and renal physiology. With expertise in both basic and translational science, we drive innovation in kidney disease prevention and treatment.
