Visiting Students

The Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital & Pearl Tourville Women's Pavilion has a number of opportunities for visiting students.

Department Opportunities

  • Students who wish to shadow with Ob/Gyn may do so under the close supervision of a physician (attending). Ob/Gyn specialty and location will be dependent on physician's availability. Students are unable to participate in procedures, operating room or have direct patient contact. We are only able to offer 1 shift (half day) of shadowing in order to meet everyone's requests.
  • Application process takes approximately 30 days to approve application, review immunization records, and schedule experience.
  • We are only able to offer shadowing opportunities while our MUSC medical students are on break: 1 week over the summer and 2 weeks in December
  • MUSC job shadowing requirements

Please contact the Ob/Gyn student coordinator, Ulani DeCillis, to schedule career exploration, shadowing or FL-Explore hours, opportunities are limited. Ob/Gyn specialty and location will be dependent on physician's availability.

  • Our fourth-year courses are each 4 weeks and are listed on Visiting Student Application Service VSLO/VSAS.
  • Students must be fully enrolled in a US, LCME-accredited medical school and in their final year of training
  • Applications must be submitted through VSAS. Applications are reviewed by the Ob/Gyn Department and are at the discretion of the College of Medicine Dean’s Office.
  • MUSC visiting medical student requirements
  • The Ob/gyn department participates in the AHEAD visiting student program
  • If you have questions, please contact our Ob/Gyn Student coordinator or Christine Talbot-Bond, at the College of Medicine.

At this time, the Ob/Gyn department is unable to accept students from other health professions (MUSC or visiting) such as nurse practitioners, certified nurse midwives, and physician assistants.
