Division of Medical Physics

Our team supports patient care through consultation with imaging and clinical providers, in various areas of radiological imaging including optimization of imaging protocols, and the appropriate use of ionizing radiation.

Education

We work intensively with residents to help them build the foundation in basic science that is an imperative in their contributions to modern medicine. A full program of educational activities for radiology residents is provided. This includes formal face-to-face lectures, web based video and quizzes, an intensive board exam review course, and practical in-the-field experience in equipment use. The Division also participates in training medical physicists in their own residency program.

A required course for first year medical students on interprofessional collaboration in healthcare is taught by the chief of the division. Required lectures on introduction to radiation usage in medicine are also provided to the general population of medical students and physicists participate in the radiology courses taken by third and fourth year medical students.

Research

We work to advance medical knowledge and to promote formal communication in both clinical and basic science topics through publications, educational courses at national meetings, and sponsored research. Our research mission is to further the science of medical imaging through active involvement in both basic and clinical science published literature.
