Message from the Chair

MUSC was founded in 1824 in Charleston, MUSC is the state’s only comprehensive academic health system, with a unique mission to preserve and optimize human life in South Carolina through education, research and patient care.

The Radiology Department has a long tradition of excellence in clinical, educational and research activities to fulfil the MUSC mission of changing what's possible in health care. We are a team of dedicated subspecialist radiologists, residents, fellows, technologists, nurses, and support personnel who are committed to providing exemplary patient care with compassion and empathy.

The Department provides a complete array of diagnostic and interventional radiological procedures for our patients using state-of-the-art equipment. and procedures. We have advanced diagnostic imaging facilities ranging from conventional radiography to dual source multi-detector CT (including photon counting CT), twin beam PET/CT, 1.5 and 3 Tesla large bore MRI’s and 3D mammography. All radiologists across the health system use Sectra PACs and PowerScribe dictation system. We are continuing evaluating and deploying AI tools to improve patient care. Our strategic partnership with Siemens Healthineers provides us with access to the most recent state of the art imaging equipment and analytic tools to benefit patient care.

We are growing to meet the continued growth of MUSC. In the Charleston area, MUSC hospitals include University Main Hospital, Ashley River Tower (ART), the MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital and Pearl Tourville Women's Pavilion and the Institute of Psychiatry. Strategically located sites in the region that offer a full range of imaging services in Health East Cooper, Chuck Dawley Medical Park, West Ashley Medical Pavilion, Primary Care – North Charleston, R.
