Interview Day Overview

Each year, the MUSC College of Medicine is privileged to connect with a diverse group of academically gifted and uniquely talented applicants who share our pursuit of medical excellence, innovation and compassionate service.

The purpose of the Interview Day is to help the Admissions Committee better understand who you are, what matters most to you and why you have chosen to become a physician.

Interview Process

Congratulations on your invitation to interview! The MUSC College of Medicine faculty, staff and students look forward to welcoming you to the College and highlighting our many programs, resources and opportunities.

The Office of Admissions will deliver all communications via email. Please be sure to add MUSC (@musc.edu) to avoid spam filtering.

The Admissions Committee is comprised of faculty, students, community physicians, and representatives from the MUSC College of Medicine.

All verified applications undergo an assessment by the Office of Admissions to determine if the applicant should be invited to interview. An application is considered complete when the verified AMCAS application as well as the MUSC Secondary application has been received. Upon receipt of the verified AMCAS application, applicants are invited to complete the MUSC Secondary application via email. Please allow 4-6 weeks for AMCAS to process your application.

Professionalism

  • Applicants are expected to be professional at all times. Professionalism includes attire, interactions with interviewers, school staff and students—by email, telephone, virtual, and in-person. The evaluation process is ongoing until a final admission decision is issued and enrollment takes place.

Computer Tips & Requirements

  • Have a computer with a camera and microphone. You may be asked for permission to use your camera and microphone, unless you previously saved this setting.
  • Mobile web browsers are currently not supported.  Do not plan on using a mobile device (phone/tablet).
  • Test your camera
  • Test your microphone
  • We suggest that you test your computer's video and audio beforehand by conducting a Zoom session with a friend well before your interview day. Remember to be sure to allow popups, if prompted by your browser.

  • Applicants invited to interview will complete three virtual interviews with MUSC College of Medicine interviewers. Two, 30-minute interviews will be completed during the Virtual Interview Day with the third virtual interview completed outside of the Virtual Interview Day.
  • The Virtual Interview Day (VID) will begin with a general information session where applicants will meet with members of the Office of Admissions and the Group on Diversity Affairs to hear more about the Admissions process and MUSC’s long-standing commitment to diversity. Following the morning presentations, applicants will complete two, 30-minute virtual interviews. Once interviews have concluded, applicants will connect with a variety of COM leaders for further insight into our many offerings. The VID day closes with a current medical student panel and a virtual campus tour. Interviewees can expect to be finished by 1:00 pm EST.

Acceptance Status

Once the MUSC College of Medicine Admissions Committee makes a final decision, each applicant will be informed of acceptance electronically. Admissions decisions are made on a rolling basis beginning in October. Applicants who have not received notice of a final decision are still under consideration.

Committee Hold

Interviewed applicants who have not been notified of acceptance or denial will remain on Committee Hold throughout the admissions cycle.

Waitlist

Once the interview cycle is complete, applicants who are still under consideration for admission will be considered for a position on the Waitlist. MUSC COM typically notifies applicants of their waitlist placement by the end of March or early April.

Deferment

Admitted students who wish to request a deferral should submit the request as soon as possible and prior to April 30. The Admissions Committee grants one-year, restricted Deferred Admission on a case-by-case basis. Common reasons to consider a deferred admission include opportunities for year-long research, educational, or service experiences.

To be considered, you must submit a written request to the Committee that includes a description of the plans for the year. Deferment requests can be sent to COM-Admissions@musc.edu.

Withdrawal

Accepted students are expected to notify the College of Medicine via email anytime during the application process of their decision to enroll in another medical school at COM-Admissions@musc.edu.

For insight into the many scholarships available, please visit the COM Scholarship and Aid Opportunities webpage. An extensive list of scholarships is listed to reflect institutional and external scholarships.

If there is a significant application update such as additional experiences, research, and/or noteworthy accolade that you would like to share with the Admissions Committee, please complete the Admissions Application Update Form. The Admissions Committee will only accept updates submitted before your interview date.
