Clinical Training Sites
The MUSC medical campus provides a unique and diverse clinical training environment. Multiple specialized hospitals are located within walking distance of one another (with the exception of the West Ashley Medical Pavilion), allowing fellows to gain experience across a broad range of surgical disciplines.
MUSC University Hospital
- MUSC University Hospital is a Level I Trauma Center that provides exposure to a wide range of complex surgical services including orthopedics, general surgery, transplant, ENT, neurosurgery, trauma, gynecology, and interventional radiology. This site provides extensive experience with regional anesthesia in high-acuity and trauma-related cases.
Ashley River Tower
- Ashley River Tower is home to cardiac and thoracic surgery and provides opportunities to perform chest wall and thoracic regional anesthesia techniques. Fellows also work with surgical services including plastics, vascular surgery, and surgical oncology.
Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital and Pearl Tourville Women’s Pavilion
- This state-of-the-art hospital provides exposure to pediatric and obstetric anesthesia, allowing fellows to expand their regional anesthesia experience across diverse patient populations.
Rutledge Tower Ambulatory Surgery Center
- Rutledge Tower is MUSC’s high-volume outpatient surgery center, with same-day orthopedic and plastic surgery cases. The building also houses the Chronic Pain Clinic, led by fellowship-trained pain specialists.
West Ashley Medical Pavilion
- The West Ashley Medical Pavilion provides experience in a true outpatient surgical environment with rapid case turnover and high procedural volume. Fellows gain exposure to ambulatory surgical cases and develop regional anesthesia techniques optimized for efficient outpatient workflows.
Together, these clinical environments create a rich regional anesthesia experience with diverse case types and patient populations.
