Educational Environment

Education and Didactics

Training is divided among clinical experience, didactic education, and research.

Educational activities include:

  • Regional anesthesia lecture series
  • Journal club
  • Morbidity and mortality conferences
  • Simulation training
  • Case discussions
  • Resident and medical student teaching opportunities
Fellows are encouraged to actively participate in teaching and education, strengthening their skills as future leaders and educators in anesthesiology.

Research and Scholarly Activity

Research is an important component of the fellowship experience. Fellows work closely with regional anesthesia faculty mentors to develop scholarly projects during the fellowship year.

Opportunities include:

  • Clinical research studies
  • Quality improvement projects
  • Case reports and review articles
  • Presentations at regional and national conferences

Faculty mentorship helps fellows develop projects that can lead to peer-reviewed publications and national presentations.

Fellow Evaluation

Fellows maintain a procedure log documenting the number and types of regional anesthetic techniques performed.

Performance is evaluated through:

  • Faculty evaluations
  • Direct clinical feedback
  • Review of procedural experience
  • Meetings with the program director

These evaluations ensure fellows achieve advanced technical proficiency and clinical expertise by the end of the program.

Moonlighting

Opportunities for internal moonlighting may be available. Moonlighting activities must not interfere with fellowship training and should complement the educational experience.
