The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) trains future physicians in cardiovascular diseases to be physician-leaders dedicated to the lifelong pursuit of excellent clinical care and scientific discovery.
Our cardiology fellowship programs combine state-of-the-art clinical and research training in an exceptional educational environment consisting of two training hospitals: MUSC’s Ashley River Tower and the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center.
Our ACGME accredited Cardiovascular Disease fellowship is a three year program that includes two years of clinical training and one year protected for research and scholarly work. We accept seven fellows each year. Applicants must have completed an accredited internal medicine residency.
Fellows may pursue an additional year or more of advanced training in clinical cardiology or cardiovascular research. We also offer subspecialty fellowships in interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, cardiac amyloidosis, advanced heart failure and transplant, and adult congenital heart disease.
Division faculty members provide extensive teaching services and hold leadership positions across the MUSC campus. The Chief of the Division of Cardiology is Thomas G. Di Salvo, M.D., MBA. There are more than 30 clinical faculty and approximately 10 research faculty with primary appointments in Cardiology, with several who work on both clinical and research priorities in cardiovascular diseases.
