Physics Education

  • RSNA/AAPM physics module completion are incorporated into rotations
  • Dedicated physics monthly RadExams are assigned based upon the rotation schedule
  • Noon conference physics lectures are held throughout the two-year didactic curriculum

For residents who desire to enhance their professional development beyond residency, optional graduation tracks are available and must be declared to the Program Director by end of R2 year.

Opportunities to Teach

There are many opportunities for residents and fellows to teach more junior residents and medical students at MUSC, beginning within the first year. For instance:

  • Teaching first year medical student anatomy imaging conferences
  • Teaching rotating third- and fourth-year medical students CORE curriculum module lectures
  • Teaching rotating medical student ultrasound labs
  • Peer to peer call prep mini-lecture series prior to the start of R2 and R3 academic years
  • Weekly R1 Bootcamp lectures taught by R4 residents during the first 6 months
  • For those residents striving to become leaders within clinical education, the Clinical Education graduation track is available

Mentoring

The MUSC Radiology Residency Program seeks to recruit excellent residents and provide support and guidance so that individuals can have stimulating and productive careers. All residents are formally assigned both a faculty and peer mentor upon start of their residency. Each resident confers with their faculty mentor at minimum twice yearly to monitor resident progress and ensure professional/academic growth based on criteria set forth by the ACGME. The Program Director meets with each resident semiannually to review the progress of the resident and the effectiveness of the mentee-mentor relationship and to ensure that areas of concentration facilitate the mentee’s successful career development.
