About the Department of Pediatrics
The Department of Pediatrics at the Medical University of South Carolina provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient medical services to pediatric patients. Through South Carolina's only primary - quaternary medical center, MUSC Children's Hospital, the Department of Pediatrics oversees a strong resident education and development program. The additionally steady growth of our fellowship programs underscore the enthusiasm of our academic faculty members and the success of our residents and fellows beyond their years of post-doctoral training.
As a part of a teaching institution, the Department of Pediatrics also maintains six areas of basic and translational research programming. Truly completing the circle of providing health care to our patients, the department is educating future doctors, while providing unparalleled pediatric care to our patients, and simultaneously, investing in the future of medical treatments and protocols through the practice of scientific research.
MUSC Children's Hospital ranks in unprecedented five categories
The U.S. News & World Report rankings of America’s Best Children’s Hospitals place the MUSC Children’s Hospital heart program among the top 20 in the country, naming it a “best hospital” in that category. Here’s a look at all five of the MUSC Children’s Hospital divisions honored in the new rankings, based on information from about 180 pediatric centers across the country:

- Pediatrics: Gastroenterology & GI Surgery (#38)

The rankings take into account clinical and operational data, results from a reputational survey of board-certified pediatric specialists and supplemental information from resources such as the National Cancer Institute.
