About the Department

The Department of Pediatrics at MUSC includes over 450 dedicated faculty and staff that oversee three critical missions:

The Department of Pediatrics’ first mission is Clinical Care. Comprehensive patient care is provided by clinicians from 20 subspecialty divisions that offer both inpatient and outpatient services in our newest state of the art hospital, the Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital, on the downtown Charleston campus, and clinic facilities at the MUSC Children’s Health R. Keith Summey Medical Pavilion in our North Charleston location. Additionally, there are several outreach sites in the region and telehealth sites across the state of South Carolina.

The Department of Pediatrics’ second mission is education. The Department is committed to providing a broad educational experience in all aspects of pediatric medicine. The Department of Pediatrics provides training for medical and post-graduate students. Our robust GME program includes a highly regarded Pediatric Residency program with 65 residents and 41 fellows in multiple subspecialties.

The Department of Pediatrics’ third mission is research. The Darby Children’s Research Institute provides dedicated laboratory space for our clinical and basic scientists who perform groundbreaking research. Our clinical research efforts are supported by a dedicated team of research coordinators within our Pediatric Research Group and grant administrators.
