Growth in Clinical Care
2026 Annual Report

Discover the milestones that signified our clinical care growth in 2026.

Expanding Access, Advancing Care

Across 10 divisions, the Department of Medicine delivers nationally recognized subspecialty care for patients with complex diseases while expanding access to coordinated, responsive care throughout South Carolina. Our clinical innovators translate discovery into advanced treatments and meaningful improvements in patient outcomes statewide and beyond.

Kiberly Davis, M.D.

Message from the Vice Chair for Clinical Operations

In FY26, Department of Medicine faculty, advanced practice providers, nurses and staff met growing demand while improving care across outpatient practices, hospitals and communities throughout South Carolina.

Our teams grew new patient volume by 15% and outpatient encounters by 11.3% over FY25, while clinical productivity increased 11.0% year-over-year. Since FY21, new patient volume has grown 63.8%, and clinical productivity has grown 62.4%.

This growth reflects a deliberate, department-wide commitment to meeting patients where they live. The department has significantly expanded its geographic reach across South Carolina since 2021, as shown in the map below, extending care into new communities from the Upstate to the Lowcountry. This expansion, paired with continued recruitment of clinical faculty and advanced practice providers across every specialty, is central to our mission of better access, better care and healthier communities statewide.

Technology sustains this growth without compromising quality or provider well-being. AI-powered in-basket tools and MyChart Direct Scheduling helped our teams manage a 10% increase in in-basket messages in FY26. Telehealth and remote patient monitoring also expanded through new rural telehospitalist coverage and programs serving federally qualified health centers and free clinics statewide, growing telehealth encounters by 32.7% over FY25 and extending MUSC expertise beyond our clinic walls.

None of this growth happens without our people. Across our ten divisions, clinical faculty and staff opened new clinics and access points, adopted new technologies, and reimagined care delivery for their patients. I am privileged to lead this dedicated team and look forward to building on this momentum in the year ahead.
