Coming Summer 2027 - A New College of Medicine Building

Take a virtual tour and see the building come to life!

As we celebrate the Bicentennial for the College of Medicine, we believe it is time to invest in our future and set the stage for the next 200 years. That begins with building a new home for the college, our first dedicated space in over a century.

Currently, the College of Medicine does not have a dedicated building to educate future physicians. Our medical students utilize facilities across our campus, sharing classrooms and study spaces with students from MUSC’s five other colleges. College of Medicine academic and student support staff are in multiple buildings as well. Our accrediting body, the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, has noted multiple times our need for more dedicated medical education and student support spaces. And we need to create spaces where academic and student support staff are more accessible to interact with students and faculty.

The time has come for us to build a new facility that will enhance and better support innovative medical education.

About the Building

This 186,000 sq ft state-of-the-art facility is being built in the heart of the MUSC campus, at the corner of Bee and President Streets, and will include:

  • Active learning spaces.
  • Large classrooms.
  • Student study and relaxation spaces.
  • Faculty/Alumni Commons.
  • COM Dean’s office.
  • Faculty and staff offices.
  • Wellness spaces.
  • Event spaces.
  • Café.

The estimated cost of the new building is $175 million, which is being raised from public and private funds.

Building on MUSC’s rich and storied history, we look to the future with excitement for all that we can accomplish. This new building will have a significant impact in elevating our medical education experience and environment, which will yield positive results for generations to come.
