Resident Engagement

At the Medical University of South Carolina, both the institutional and departmental mission is to welcome and celebrate individuals of various backgrounds and multicultural experiences.

Therefore, we strongly encourage applications from candidates from groups historically not well represented in radiology.

Our goal is to embrace a radiology residency program that promotes engagement in areas of recruitment, teaching, and patient care. With this intention, we aim to increase representation within residents, fellows, faculty and staff. In the confidence that, as a program, we will promote an educational environment rooted in communication, collaboration and collegiality. This in turn, will allow people to understand and be understood, and work together to change what's possible.

Furthermore, our radiology residency program fosters a culture of openness and nondiscrimination.

We encourage students from a variety of backgrounds, including those with disabilities, from rural areas, first-generation college students, and those facing socioeconomic challenges, to apply to the AHEAD Visiting Student Program. This program welcomes individuals committed to addressing healthcare gaps in the communities they serve. For more information, visit our GME Engagement website.

Hangouts

Medicine applicants to all residency and fellowship programs are invited to attend the Virtual Hangouts hosted by residents and fellows from across the COM that are from historically not well-represented backgrounds. These meetings allow for informal discussion about life at MUSC and in Charleston and are NOT program/department specific. RSVP is required; attendees will receive a Zoom link to the virtual meeting after RSVP.
