Engagement and Support in the Internal Medicine Residency Program

The MUSC Internal Medicine Residency Program and the Department of Medicine are dedicated to cultivating a training environment that promotes cultural awareness, competency, and opportunities for individuals from all backgrounds. Our goal is to recruit, train, and prepare physicians to serve a wide range of communities while ensuring our program reflects the populations we are privileged to care for.

Charleston’s rich cultural landscape enhances our training by providing direct engagement with a broad patient population. Our residency program strives to create a welcoming and collaborative atmosphere that supports the professional and personal growth of all trainees. We take great pride in our current and former residents and deeply appreciate the lasting impact they have on our program and the communities they serve.

We invite you to explore the College of Medicine Pathways & Engagement website to learn about resources available to current and prospective residents through the College of Medicine.

Resident Ambassadors

Resident Ambassadors are current residents from various backgrounds and multicultural experiences who want to answer any questions you have about what it's like to live in Charleston, SC, be a resident at MUSC, or work within their specific department. If you have questions for our Internal Medicine Program Resident Ambassador, please contact Dr. Jerome Deas. For full list of MUSC Resident Ambassadors, go to GME Resident Ambassadors site.

Women in Internal Medicine, Science, and Education (WISE)

The WISE program provides a supportive space for female residents and faculty in the Department of Medicine through quarterly social events focused on leadership, career development, and professional connections. This initiative fosters mentorship, collaboration, and growth, helping participants build lasting relationships within the Internal Medicine department. Through WISE, we aim to create opportunities for meaningful engagement and career advancement in a welcoming and empowering environment.
