Engagement

In 2003 the College of Medicine launched a major recruitment effort to include residents representing a wide range of backgrounds. That effort, which involved the Graduate Medical Education office and multiple directors and faculty, has been successful and representation from areas not historically represented has tripled.

The Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery applauds this effort and is proud to have participated. Our Department also supports the College’s ongoing efforts to promote better understanding of a wide variety of backgrounds and perspectives, and to mentor residents and fellows.

Opportunities
The Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery has initiated a scholarship program for fourth year medical students from outside institutions applying for an elective rotation in our Department. The scholarship provides a $1,000 stipend to help defray costs of moving and staying in Charleston for the month.

In addition to the regular application process for the elective rotation, a one-page summary of future career plans is requested.

On behalf of our faculty, I thank you for considering MUSC as a potential residency program.
