Leadership

Dr. Kelly Barth is a Med-Psych physician board-certified in internal medicine, addiction psychiatry and pain medicine. She directs the MUSC Pain Rehabilitation Program and also performs research in the area of opioid tapering and peer-led interventions for opioid overdose survivors. She is a member of the MUSC Project Echo OUD Hub where she provides mentoring and lectures in the areas of addiction diagnosis and treatment, pain management, and overdose prevention.

Dr. Call completed her residency at MUSC. She currently does primary care in the Homeless Patient Aligned Care Team (HPACT) program at the Ralph Johnson VA. She is dedicated to delivering quality primary care and mental healthcare to the homeless veterans of South Carolina. She supervises Med-Psych residents in the HPACT clinic.

Program Director, Med-Psych Resident Program

Dr. Kalivas is an associate professor with dual appointment in the departments of Psychiatry and Medicine and now serves as Program Director for the Combined Internal Medicine and Psychiatry Residency Program. He graduated medical school from MUSC. He is a former chief resident of our med-psych program in 2016 and internal medicine chief resident in 2017. He then joined faculty at MUSC where he works as an academic hospitalist for the Department of Medicine and as part of the Brain Stimulation Service for the Department of Psychiatry. His research focus is detection and management of delirium in hospitalized patients. He also serves as the Medical Director for GME Quality and Safety, where he facilitates resident quality improvement projects and overall training culture at MUSC. He is passionate about education and a large part of the educational mission of both categorical and the combined training programs her at MUSC.

Complex Intervention Unit and Collaborative Care Psychiatry with MUSC Telehealth Center of Excellence

Dr. Temeia Martin is a native of Jackson, Mississippi and received her bachelor’s of science degree from Xavier University. She received her medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine in 2007. Dr. Martin completed a 5 year dual-residency training program and is currently board certified in Internal Medicine and Psychiatry. In 2012, Dr. Martin was appointed as the medical director of the Adult Sickle Cell Patient-Centered Medical Home and has been recognized as a national expert in sickle cell disease. She also provides hospitalist services to the Institute of Psychiatry, is an active clinical researcher, and holds a faculty position in the College of Health Professions. She serves on various committees including the Curriculum Committee and Graduate Medical Education Appeals Committee. She is an inductee of the Gold’s Humanitarian Honor Society underscoring her dedication to compassionate patient care.

Complex Intervention Unit

Dr. Allison Smith is a native of West Virginia and attended West Virginia University for her undergraduate and medical school training and MUSC for residency and fellowship. She is triple boarded in Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, and Addiction Psychiatry. Her passion is caring for medically complicated patients with co-morbid psychiatric diagnoses, with a special focus on patients medically hospitalized with OUD.

She currently splits her time in the inpatient setting as a Consult Liaison attending, SUD research, and in the outpatient setting Bio-behavioral Medicine Clinic. She is the Primary Investigator for a state grant that has expanded addiction-based services in the inpatient hospital setting at MUSC.
