Didactics

We provide a broad didactics schedule that covers key pain board topics and expands the clinical knowledge of our fellows. Key topics covered include the following:

  • MRI & Imaging in Pain Medicine
  • Musculoskeletal & Joint Pain
  • Acute Pain Management
  • Cancer Pain Management
  • Headache & Orofacial Pain

Journal Club

We hold journal club meetings at various restaurants and other locations in Charleston in an educational yet relaxed atmosphere. 

Multidisciplinary Pain Meetings

We have developed multidisciplinary pain meetings with pain psychologists and primary care providers to coordinate care for complex patients with chronic pain. This is an interactive case-based discussion that emphasizes teamwork and comprehensive care for the whole patient. 

Quality Improvement Project

Fellows will participate in a longitudinal quality improvement project during thier fellowship year with guidance from a faculty member who will mentor them for the project. 

Spinal Cord Stimulation & Surgical Skills Cadaver Lab

We offer cadaver workshops to teach suturing and operative skills, spinal cord stimulator lead placement, and minimally invasive lumbar decompression procedure in a state-of-the-art Bioskills laboratory.
