Scholarly Activity

Research is a vital part of our curriculum here at MUSC. We have world renowned faculty mentors to provide guidance and inspire our fellows.  Department leadership is supportive of fellows taking time for research endeavors.

Additionally, there is organized research infrastructure designed to facilitate fellow involvement:

  • Database of ongoing research projects allows fellows to easily find projects and mentors in line with their interests. There are numerous projects to choose from. The same database also assists in recruiting interested medical students.
  • Funding and time provided to attending national meetings
  • Protected time for scholarly activity throughout fellowship in the form of individual scholarly activity days
  • Access to professional statisticians
  • Imaging/data retrieval software

All fellows undertake at least one mentored research project during fellowship, and the majority of fellows choose to pursue multiple projects. Submission of at least one abstract to the American Society of Neuroradiology (ASNR) meeting is expected, followed by presentation of a scientific paper or exhibit at the meeting (if accepted).
