About the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, & Metabolic Diseases

Joshua Neal, M.D. is an Obesity Medicine physician at MUSC and an assistant professor for the College of Medicine in the Division of Endocrinology. Dr. Neal also serves as Chief of Wellness & Human Performance Integrated Center of Clinical Excellence (ICCE) for MUSC Health. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before attending medical school at Albany Medical College. Dr. Neal completed his residency in Family Medicine at Eisenhower Army Medical Center and served four years abroad with the U.S. Army. Before joining MUSC, he was the regional medical director for Ascension St. Vincent's Bariatric Medical Weight Management Program. He has also worked in urgent and primary care.

Dr. Neal is board-certified in Family Medicine and Obesity Medicine. He has special interests in weight management and culinary medicine. His background in family medicine, urgent care, concierge medicine, and military medicine helps to inform a comprehensive approach to patient care. He understands that everyone has a unique relationship with food and weight. He works to support each patient in reaching their own goals while improving the determinants of metabolic health.

Dr. Jessica Dial is an Instructor at the Medical University of South Carolina in the College of Nursing’s MSN/DNP Program. She brings a dynamic blend of clinical expertise and academic enthusiasm to her role, with a strong focus on diabetes care, patient education, and quality improvement.

She is certified by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) and practices as a Family Nurse Practitioner in the Division of Endocrinology at MUSC. Dr. Dial currently provides inpatient diabetes and hyperglycemia management for a wide variety of patients, including those with complex surgical, transplant, and burn care needs. Her leadership experience includes serving as the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Lead, where she has led initiatives to enhance clinical workflows, employee engagement and interprofessional collaboration.

Dr. Goodman is an Instructor at the Medical University of South Carolina College of Nursing, teaching in the DNP program.

Dr. Goodman began her nursing career as a pediatric nurse at Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, NC and thereafter moved to Charleston, SC where she continued to work in pediatric critical care at MUSC and became certified in pediatric critical care. Dr. Goodman served as a clinical instructor for both pediatric and medical-surgical classes for the ABSN program while she was completing her MSN and DNP degrees at MUSC. She is an AANP certified FNP. After becoming an FNP, she shifted her focus to lifespan endocrinology and then adult endocrinology. She practices clinically with MUSC Endocrinology. She has spoken locally and regionally on endocrinology topics.

Dr. Goodman is passionate about educating and mentoring aspiring nurse practitioners and joined the College of Nursing as a full-time faculty member in the DNP program in the Fall of 2023.

Dr. Goodman completed her Diploma in Nursing from Mercy School of Nursing (Charlotte, NC), her BSN from Appalachian State University College of Nursing (Boone, NC), and her MSN and DNP degrees from the Medical University of South Carolina College of Nursing.
