Scientific Cores

The DDRCC operates three biomedical core facilities complemented by a committed clinical component to enhance and accelerate digestive and liver disease research by Center members. Overall, the four cores offer Center members several tangible benefits: preferred access to specialized equipment and advanced technological capabilities not otherwise available to investigators at MUSC; expert advice and assistance, and cost-efficient products to make the most of existing research dollars. Furthermore, the Clinical Component leadership is unique given its leadership history in clinical research specifically in digestive and liver disease. 

  1. Analytical Cell Models Core which will deliver high quality, pure primary liver cells and produce state-of-the-art tissue culture models of digestive and liver disease

  2. Advanced Imaging Core with advanced cell- and tissue-based imaging techniques and instrumentation
     

  3. Proteomics Core with innovative mass spectrometry imaging capabilities
     

  4. Clinical Component which provides support for design, implementation, and analysis of research studies to improve clinical outcomes for patients with digestive disease

The Cores are intended to serve both clinical and basic science researchers. The Administrative Core oversees the operation of the DDRCC and administers the Pilot and Feasibility Program to foster participation by younger, and established, investigators in digestive diseases-related research.

The Center specifically developed cores that are relevant to the research being performed by Research Base/Full Members. Relevance was determined by a needs assessment survey and all of the cores are used by multiple investigators.
