About the MPH Generalist Degree

In addition to our tried-and-true concentrations in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Health Behavior and Health Promotion, the Department of Public Health Sciences is proud to announce that we now offer the MPH degree online. The MPH Generalist will have general competency in the evaluation of the status of health of diverse populations and in the development of rigorous plans and strategies to implement them.

The Fall 2024 application deadline for admissions is May 15th, 2024.

Master of Public Health (MPH): Generalist Track

Graduates from the MPH Generalist program will have general competency in the evaluation of the status of health of diverse populations and in the development of rigorous plans and strategies to implement them to fulfill the primary objective of DPHS, namely, to improve population health in and around the Lowcountry and across the state and globe. This program will strive to educate a diverse public health workforce, including working adults and students who may have difficulty with attending a traditional graduate degree program taught with in-person requirements. It also allows students to become experts in innovative research, provide leadership, and serve as advocates for improved and equitable population and community health across South Carolina and beyond. These goals align with MUSC's missions in disease prevention, patient and community wellness, and population health. The program will provide graduates with marketable skills for careers in public health agencies, health departments, hospitals, other health care organizations, government regulatory agencies, not-for-profit agencies, academic institutions, and industry.

Quotes From Online MPH Students

Mary Hill - Class of 2025

"The MUSC MPH program has been an amazing experience thus far. Although I am an online student and do not have many face-to-face interactions with classmates or professors, I still feel very connected and valued. All communication between professors, faculty, department leaders, advisors, financial aid, enrollment staff, etc. has been extremely helpful and each person made sure I had everything I needed to succeed throughout the semesters."

Nicole Sullivan - Class of 2025

"The online program has been both enjoyable and intellectually engaging. The schedule and professors are incredibly accommodating, making it easy for individuals like me who are working full-time to manage the workload and be flexible."

Scholarship Eligibility

MUSC offers scholarships for which you may be eligible. Some are awarded based on academic achievement; others are awarded based on community service, for example. However, the majority of scholarships awarded at MUSC are based on financial need. This means those scholarships are only awarded to students who need some financial assistance to cover the cost of tuition and fees. If you would like to be considered for a financial need-based scholarship, you must have an up-to-date Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file. Make sure you list Medical University of South Carolina on your FAFSA form, along with MUSC’s code: 003438. We encourage you to submit the FAFSA as early as possible. It is recommended to submit the FAFSA in January if you plan to enroll in the Fall.
